Saxophone and clarinet player Leon Cotter has played up and down both coasts with a variety of different bands, playing everything from reggae to middle eastern music to dixieland, with performances at the Fillmore West, New York’s Blue Note, the Burlington JazzFest (opening for Jimmy Cliff), and Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival. Since returning to Oregon in 2012, he has become an integral part of Portland’s old time jazz scene.
From SoundBetter:
“I’m an internationally touring reed player with the California Honeydrops. I have years of experience as an improviser, section player and arranger, in a variety of styles from Americana to Zydeco. I’ve been playing sax and clarinet for almost 20 years. During my years of touring, I’ve shared the stage with Bonnie Raitt, Charlie Hunter and the Hamiltones, among many other great artists. My background is in jazz (studied music at Berklee), but I’ve spent years playing in soul and funk bands. I can arrange horn parts, play and/or harmonize parts you’ve written, or record solos. I can guarantee that anything I give you will be in tune and have a good groove. I’m easy to work with and flexible, and I’ll be happy to work with you until your needs are met.”
